Certification Routes for Mod in Different Markets — 2026 Buyer Notes
We ship mod to distributors in very different markets, and the same five questions come up almost every week. Rather than answer them in email each time, we have written them out properly here.
How Mod Batches Are Checked
Inspection is only useful if the result is recorded somewhere you can find it later. A mod batch log with weights, codes and measurements turns a future complaint into a five minute lookup.
AQL sampling gets a lot of attention, but for mod the more useful habit is simply measuring the same three things on every single batch. Trend lines catch problems that pass/fail checks miss.
- Rotate stock by batch code rather than by delivery date.
- Confirm the current customs classification with your own broker.
- Model landed cost, not ex-works price, when comparing quotes.
- Agree the tolerance band in writing before approving artwork.
- Check carton dimensions against your freight quote before confirming.
What to Fix Before Approving Mod
Two specifications that matter more than buyers expect: the seal integrity after a drop test and the consistency of the draw from first use to last. Both are measurable before you commit to volume.
| Product category | Pod system |
|---|---|
| Resistance band | 0.6 - 0.8 ohm |
| Capacity tolerance | +/- 5% |
| Puff count method | Declared by capacity |
| Master carton | 200 units |
| Carton weight | 8.3 kg |
| Shelf life | 12 months |
| Storage | 15-25 C, dry, away from direct light |
Where Demand Is Heading
Assortment rationalisation is the quiet trend in this category. Shops that cut their mod range from twelve lines to five well chosen ones often report higher total sales, not lower.
One visible change in mod is the move towards clearer labelling and traceability. Retailers who adopted batch coding early are finding it much easier to work with larger distributors now.
Freight, Customs and Timing
Plan the mod customs paperwork at the same time as the order, not when the goods are on the water. A missing document costs more in demurrage than the entire freight saving from a cheap forwarder.
Pricing and Margin
Watch the mod price you pay over a year rather than per order. Factories respond well to visible volume, and a quarterly review is usually worth more than a hard negotiation each time.
Indicative reference points for planning purposes: entry tier from USD 1.07 per unit at 2000 units, mid tier at USD 1.76, and volume tier at USD 0.85 for full container quantities. These figures move with specification, packaging and freight, so treat them as a shape rather than a quote.
Practical Checklist
- Rotate stock by batch code rather than by delivery date.
- Start with a mixed carton and let your own sell-through decide.
- Check carton dimensions against your freight quote before confirming.
- Ask how the factory measures puff count, then compare like with like.
- Keep sealed retained samples from every production batch.
- Model landed cost, not ex-works price, when comparing quotes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What information do you need to quote?
Target specification, approximate quantity, destination and any packaging requirement. With those four we can usually come back with a costed option the same working day rather than a request for more information.
What if a batch does not match the sample?
Keep the retained samples from the approval stage. If a delivered batch measurably differs, we compare against the retained set and resolve it against the production record. This is why we insist on sealed retained units from every run.
How long does a mod order take to arrive?
Production typically takes ten to eighteen working days after artwork approval, and transit depends on the method you choose. Air express is fastest, sea freight is cheapest at volume. We confirm both at quotation so there is no surprise later.
Is there a warranty on mod?
Manufacturing defects are covered against the retained sample standard. Normal wear, misuse and damage after opening are not. We publish the threshold in the order terms so both sides know exactly what the claim process looks like.
Next Step
Send us your current mod specification even if you are not planning to move suppliers. A second read of a document you use every month is usually worth the ten minutes.
